Effects of suggestion on d' and Cx for pain detection and pain tolerance.

چکیده
It has been demonstrated that suggestion directed toward eliciting fewer reports of detection of minimal pain and suggestion directed toward greater pain tolerance (fewer withdrawals) altered the response probabilities in the expected direction and in addition raised both the pain detection and pain tolerance thresholds to thermal stimulation. However, sensory decision theory analysis of the same response data revealed that the sole effect of the suggestions was to raise the detection criterion for very faint pain (CVFP) and the withdrawal criterion for pain tolerance (Cw). Suggestion was absolutely without effect on the subject's ability to discriminate noxious stimulation, d', indicating that suggestion had failed to produce an analgesic effect. Males set a higher criterion than females, but d' did not differ. It may be concluded that many of the pain threshold changes produced by "cognitive control," hypnosis, counterirritant stimulation, etc., are not due to decreased pain sensitivity but merely reflect changes in the criterion for reporting pain.

The effect of alloxan-induced diabetes on anti-nociception and on the development of morphine tolerance and dependence in rats
Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in all societies including Iran. One of its important complications is the neuropathic pain, which can be relieved by opioid drugs such as morphine. Opioid therapy is restricted due to development of tolerance and physical or mental dependence. In this study, the effect of diabetes on morphine analgesia and development of morphine tolerance and depend...

متن کاملConcentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...
متن کاملNoxious behaviors from subcutaneous injection of formalin and morphine tolerance effects on the responses of addicted male rats
Formalin as a chemical noxious stimulus evokes a biphasic pain that its second phase as a chronic inflammatory pain is similar to clinical pain. In this study, we used 40 NMRI male rats (250-300 g), and experiments were carried out considering ethical rules. Experiments were performed in normal and morphine addicted rats, the addiction was induced by Leung method. Behaviors of flinching and lic...
